Ousmane Dembele has finally put an end to his goal drought by emphatically scoring his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain.
Friday night was the Frenchman’s twelfth league game for the Parisians since joining from Barcelona in the summer.
To this point Dembele had managed four assists in 11 league games – with no goal contributions in four Champions League games, too – and eyebrows had been raised at his absence of goals.
But he put an end to that with a stunning strike during PSG’s rampant 5-2 win over Monaco at the Parc des Princes on Friday.
‘It’s nice, I’m happy but the most important thing is that the team continues its momentum,’ Dembele told Prime Video afterwards.

‘I didn’t question myself [when I hadn’t scored], I decided to push hard, even if it doesn’t always work out for me.’
Asked about the result, which keeps PSG top of Ligue 1, he added: ‘We had a very good match overall.
‘Monaco is a team that tries to play and pushed us to make a few small mistakes but that’s part of football. We got up very quickly.’
While there was delight from Luis Enrique and PSG’s fans to see Dembele get off the mark, it was a night that began with two dramatic goalkeeping errors.
PSG took the lead in the 18th minute when Goncalo Ramos capitalised when Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Kohn spilled an initial shot.
Not to be outdone, PSG made an error of their own to gift Monaco and equaliser aat 1-1.
Kylian Mbappe is the top scorer in Ligue 1 and added to his goal tally from the penalty spot
Monaco were making it a game at 1-1 when Takumi Minamino (left) equalised early on
Takumi Minamino seized on a mistake by home keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was careless playing out from the back, to make it 1-1 four after Ramos’ opener.
PSG talisman Kylian Mbappe would then restore the hosts’ lead with a 39th minute penalty to extend his tally as Ligue 1 top scorer this season to 14 goals.
Dembele made it 3-1 20 minutes from time before Vitinha scored with a superb shot from the edge of the box two minutes later.
Folarin Balogun pulled one back for the visitors after a fine through ball from Minamino in the 75th but Randal Kolo Muani completed the rout in stoppage time.
PSG next host Champions League Group F opponents Newcastle United on Tuesday.
