We may be more than a month away from the transfer window opening but clubs are busy behind the scenes as they look to secure their summer signings.
One club who will be looking to strengthen is Liverpool, as they look set to finish the season empty handed and currently find themselves 23 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
With Gini Wijnaldum potentially departing on a free transfer and the team struggling to replicate the form which saw them claim a first Premier League title last year, the Reds will almost certainly strengthen in several positions this summer.
And if reports are to be believed, Liverpool's sporting director Michael Edwards has already made some promising progress in recent weeks.
Cut-price deal for target
Liverpool are reported to be long-time admirers of Ousmane Dembele and reports from Spain suggest the winger will be available for half price this summer as Barcelona look to avoid losing him for free in 2022.
Dembele joined Barca in the summer of 2017 from Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of £96.8m, with the potential of it rising to £135.5m.
The 23-year-old had struggled to replicate the form he showed in Germany for much of his time at Barca but things have improved under Ronald Koeman this season.
With the player’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2022, Spanish publication Sport claim the La Liga side are now willing to sell for between £43.5 million to £52 million as they fear losing him for nothing next year.
Reds set to sign centre back
Liverpool are set to sign RB Leipzig centre back Ibrahima Konate this summer after agreeing personal terms with the player, according to respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
It has been widely reported the Reds were interested in signing the 21-year-old and Romano claims the personal terms on a five-year contract have now been agreed and that the club will pay the £30.5 million release clause in the next few days.
The France Under-21 international has been at Leipzig since 2017 after signing from Sochaux and he has gone on to make 92 appearances for the German side, although he has missed a third of this season’s matches due to injury.
German midfielder chooses Liverpool
For a while it looked like Bayern Munich were set to land another of Germany’s best talents but reports suggest midfielder Florian Neuhaus has decided he wants to sign for Liverpool instead.
The Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder is said to be valued at around £40 million and it was claimed that Bayern had him near the top of their wishlist.
But Bild’s head of football Christian Falk has told his Bayern Insider podcast that Neuhaus would rather join Liverpool.
Neuhaus grew up just outside Munich and started his career at 1860 Munich before signing for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2017.
After helping Fortuna Düsseldorf to promotion whilst on loan during the 2017/18 season, he has become a regular for Mönchengladbach, scoring 15 goals and recording 20 assists in 112 appearances and making five appearances for Germany.
