    A Newcastle fan was rushed to hospitalised on Monday after he was 'stabbed three times' by 'a pack of thugs' ahead of the Magpies' Champions League clash with AC Milan.

    It's reported 'seven or eight' men attacked the 58-year-old British supporter in Italy at around midnight. The victim was was walking with a friend in the central district of Navigili when the alleged assault occurred.

    According to Milano Today, he was saved by local police who took him to hospital, where it's understood his state is 'improving'. It's understood his back and arm were targeted in the violent incident, with the former most concerning to doctors.

    Nothing was stolen from the victim during the assault, which happened when a group of supporters were en route back to their hotel having left an area where visiting fans had congregated on Monday. More than 5,000 Magpies loyalists are understood to have made the trip to Milan ahead of Tuesday's fixture, which will be Newcastle's first Champions League game in 20 years.

    Other Newcastle supporters who were in the same group as the knife victim are said to be 'okay' according to claims on social media. One photo circulating appeared to show a fan being loaded into an ambulance on a gurney while another shirtless fan watched on.

    Footage has been shared of the travelling fans enjoying themselves in Italy's fashion capital ahead of what will be a cherished day in the club's history. Throngs of Newcastle's faithful can be seen singing in large number in bars, pubs and restaurants, with some scaling and banging on tables to celebrate the occasion.
