Newcastle are planning a move for out-of-favour Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe in the January window, according to reports.
The 23-year-old midfielder was linked to Chelsea over the summer after spending much of last season on the bench with his future at the club in doubt.
And Smith Rowe has found himself in a similar position this season, having made just two appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta reiterated that he views the 23-year-old as a ‘really important player’ but, despite this, could soon see the academy product leave.
According to the Northern Echo, the Magpies are considering a move for Smith Rowe in the winter window and club chiefs will soon meet to discuss their January plans.

The outlet claim that Newcastle’s directors Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are due to meet with chairman Yasir al-Rummayan before the end of the international break.
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe will also be involved in the discussions as the high-flying side look to plan out their transfer strategy for January.
The outlet also claim that Smith Rowe has already been discussed by Newcastle’s recruitment team as a potential target – given his lack of game time at Arsenal.
The 23-year-old has made six appearances in all competitions this season, having also struggled with injuries during the campaign.
Prior to their Carabao Cup clash with Brentford, Arteta said: ‘There’s been many reasons why he hasn’t started a match. He was out for a long, long time.
‘In the last two matches he’s played more minutes and tomorrow (today) he will have a big chance to show that he can play at this level and be a really important player for us.
‘He needs time on the pitch and he needs opportunities and we want to provide that to him. Then he needs to prove it like anybody else on the field that he deserves to play.’
Smith Rowe spent eight years in the Arsenal academy before eventually breaking into the first-team back in 2018.
Since then, he has gone on to make 102 appearances for the Gunners – scoring 18 goals and recording 11 assists during that period.
