Napoli ‘will NOT sign midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on a permanent deal after falling down the pecking order in recent months under Gennaro Gattuso… with return to France now possible for Chelsea outcast’
- Tiemoue Bakayoko has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Napoli
- But he has not played 90 minutes in Serie A since late February for the club
- He was also an unused substitute for Gennaro Gattuso against Juventus
- The Chelsea outcast has been linked with a return to France with PSG and Lyon
Napoli have opted against making Tiemoue Bakayoko’s contract at the club permanent, according to reports.
The 26-year-old – who joined Napoli on loan from Chelsea in October – has made 36 appearances across all competitions for Gennaro Gattuso’s men this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
However, as per Football Italia, he has dropped down the pecking order at the club in recent months, having not completed 90 minutes for the club in Serie A since late February and being left on the bench for Wednesday’s defeat by Juventus.

The report therefore adds that Bakayoko will return to Stamford Bridge upon the completion of his loan, with the Serie A side having no intention of acquiring him permanently.
Footmercato therefore claim a return to his native France could be an option in the summer, with the player having been offered to Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon, but the Blues are reportedly not willing to sell him for anything less than £16million.
Bakayoko will enter the final year of his Blues contract in June, but has not played for the club since 2018, after which he was sent out on loans to AC Milan and former club Monaco before arriving in Naples.
The reports will come as a blow to the player, whose agent and brother Abdoulaye revealed last month that he was open to the idea of remaining at the club irrespective of Gattuso’s future.

‘His future is not tied to that of the coach,’ Abdoulaye said. ‘There is a strong bond with the coach, but when the discussions are held with the club to stay at Napoli, then we’ll see.
‘The focus right now is to see out the season in the best possible way. There are no appointments planned with the club to discuss it.
‘Whether he remains at Napoli or not, that will not depend on Gattuso. He is happy here; it’s a big club with a great history.’
Napoli still find themselves in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League, sitting two points adrift of Atalanta in fourth.
His agent confirmed last month his future has nothing to do with Gattuso’s future
