Julian Nagelsmann has left the door open for Toni Kroos to perform a U-turn and return to international football in time for Germany’s home Euro 2024 campaign.
Real Madrid star Kroos elected to walk away from Germany following a below-par Euro 2020.
He wanted to focus on his family, as well as try and prolong his club career with Real Madrid.
But Kroos, who himself has remained tight-lipped on the prospect of playing for Germany again, is now in the sights of boss Nagelsmann, who has revealed he has spoken to the midfielder.
‘Interesting thought,’ Nagelsmann told ZDF’s SportStudio when asked about the prospect of Kroos returning to the fold.

‘My job is to think about all German players. Toni is a great person who says his opinion clearly – and a very successful footballer. You can talk to him about everything.’
Pressed on whether the pair spoke about Kroos completing a Germany U-turn during a recent conversation, Nagelsmann added: ‘No, not concretely. We spoke about general topics.’
Nagelsmann continued: ‘I think playing a Euros at home is an attractive prospect for all German players. It depends on him, his performances and on other players.’

Kroos has 106 appearances for Germany to his name, playing a key role in the side between 2010 and 2021.
The Real Madrid star’s highlight moment with his nation saw him lift the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
But it has been much tougher in recent years for Germany and Kroos announced his retirement from the national team in the wake of a disappointing Euro 2020, aged just 31.
Nonetheless, he remains an integral piece of the jigsaw at Real Madrid.

After featuring in all 16 of their LaLiga matches so far, Real Madrid team-mate Antonio Rudiger is now on the charm offensive to get his German compatriot back into the national team mix.
After Real Madrid’s Champions League trip to Berlin to take Union, Kroos was quizzed by DAZN on Rudiger’s pitch.
‘I had to think about it for a long time, it caught me off guard because I hadn’t thought about it myself, but he did,’ Kroos said.
‘That made me think about it and give him an answer that I can’t give you today,’ he added, with a grin.
