Mesut Ozil is reportedly unhappy at Fenerbache, just eight months after joining the Turkish side from Arsenal.
The 32-year-old made the switch to the Istanbul based side in January as a free agent, after Arsenal agreed to terminate the final six months of his contract to save on his £350,000-per-week wages.
Now it has been reported by Diario AS that the playmaker is open to a move away despite having three years left on his current deal.
Mesut Ozil is reportedly ‘unhappy’ at Fenerbache amid reports of a move away from the club
Ozil joined Fenerbache in January after having his contract at Arsenal terminated
He has fallen out of favour at the Turkish giants with speculation that clubs in Qatar and the MLS are considering a move for the former German international.
It comes despite Ozil stating when he arrived at the club: ‘I was always a Fenerbache fan, this is a dream come true for me.’
After joining in January, he was limited to just ten appearances last season after suffering a ruptured ankle ligament in March.
So far this season, the midfielder has started one game, left on the bench for another while missing their last match with a groin injury.
It is said though that manager Vitor Pereira doesn’t have full trust in Ozil and prefers 20-year-old Muhammet Gumuskaya, who played instead of the German in both Europa League qualification games for the club.
Ozil stated it was a ‘dream come true’ to join Fenerbache but has found it tough with injuries
There were reports of a rift between the player and manager before the game he missed through injury, with rumours then accelarating after Ozil met up with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamed Al Sani.
The player’s agent Erkut Sogut though has rubbished claims on reports he wants to move Qatar.
Sogut said: ‘Mesut Ozil grew up with the love of Fenerbahce and now he feels the pride of wearing that shirt.
‘He is very happy, he always gives his best for the success of Fenerbahce.
Mikel Arteta had omitted Ozil from Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad last season
‘There are some footballers who come to Turkey because they cannot find another club. Mesut came because he always planned for this and wanted it. It was not for money.’
It has been a tumultuous couple of years for Ozil which led to him being omitted from Mikel Arteta’s Premier League squad last season altogether before his move to Fenerbache.
Ozil was not included in Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad and was also not selected in the Europa League before his move to Fenerbache.
The move to cancel his £350,000-per-week contract saved Arsenal an estimated £7m.
