Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi appeared to announce his departure from the Premier League side on Instagram before bizarrely deleting the post.

Guendouzi has been a fringe figure at the Emirates Stadium since falling out of favour with boss Mikel Arteta last year.

The Spaniard had concerns over Guendouzi’s maturity following a spat with Brighton’s Neal Maupay during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against the south coast side after Project Restart.

The France U21 star was sent on loan to Hertha Berlin last season, where he made 24 appearances in the German Bundesliga.

Guendouzi appears set to leave Arsenal this summer and has just a year remaining on the contract he signed when he joined in 2018.

Marseille are believed to be the likeliest destination for the 22-year-old, who impressed under Unai Emery before the Spaniard was dismissed and replaced by Arteta.

Arsenal are set to make only a £3million profit on Guendouzi, who they signed for £7m two years ago.

And in a now-deleted Instagram post, the former Lorient man has sent a heartfelt goodbye to Arsenal fans.

The post, which he also copied and pasted into a Twitter thread, remained active for a few minutes before strangely disappearing.

“Thank you, Arsenal. Thanks for everything!” Guendouzi wrote on the social media platform.

“I discovered and learned so much during my time here. It would be impossible to list everything without forgetting one memory or word… but I will never forget any minute spent with the Gunners jersey.

“I will never forget the Emirates Stadium. I will never forget the fans. I won’t forget the city.

“I will never forget everything I’ve been through here. I will never forget that my only will was to defend with pride Arsenal colours.

“Thanks to all of those who believed in me during my time here, during the good and the bad moments.

“I can only wish the best to the club and its fans who deserve so much, trust me! Goodbye Arsenal, I will never forget you and will be a Gooner forever.”

Guendouzi, who made 82 appearances for Arsenal, is set to be part of a big summer revamp led by Arteta following a disappointing campaign.

The Gunners finished eighth in the Premier League and the defence of their FA Cup success from the year before ended in a dismal fourth-round exit against Southampton.

Arteta, 39, has been trusted to oversee a rejuvenation of his squad during the transfer window and is set to replace several senior stars with fresh talent.

Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares is reportedly close to joining.

Arsenal have been linked with Brighton’s Ben White and Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Veteran defender David Luiz departed when his contract expired last Thursday.

Long-serving right-back Hector Bellerin and midfielders Granit Xhaka and Willian are rumoured to be considering departures.
