Manchester United team news: Jose Mourinho reveals why Romelu Lukaku is not in squad for Bournemouth clash

Romelu Lukaku picked up an injury in training on Friday which has ruled him out of Manchester United’s clash with Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Belgian was left on the bench for the Red Devils’ win over Everton at Old Trafford last weekend but was this time left out of the squad entirely for the game at the Vitality Stadium.

Lukaku, a £75m signing from Everton last summer, has only found the net four times this term and has struggled to replicate the success of his debut campaign.

But manager Jose Mourinho revealed his selection decision for the game came down to fitness rather than form.

“In training yesterday, after the press conference, he felt something that needs to be studied in the next couple of days,” he said ahead of the game. “So Lukaku has not come and we decided to start with Alexis.”

Sanchez returns in place of Marcus Rashford who started the previous game with Anthony Martial, a scorer last time out, keeping his spot after an excellent recent run.

Bournemouth also make one change from the team that won 3-0 at Fulham with Junior Stanislas starting instead of Charlie Daniels.
