Cristiano Ronaldo is known for his prolific nature in front of goal, but the Portugal international often hits a stumbling block when encountered by teams managed by Jose Mourinho.
Indeed, Ronaldo may have scored a staggering 578 goals in 773 club appearances during his career, but he has found the net just once in 14 games against Mourinho’s sides.
Manchester Untied supporters will be hoping that the trend continues on Tuesday night when Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford with Juventus in the Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo has frequently found it difficult to score against Jose Mourinho’s sides
Ronaldo spent time under Mourinho’s guidance at Real Madrid, but, as reported by The Metro, has frequently found it difficult to score when taking on his compatriot.
The only time that Ronaldo has scored against a team managed by Mourinho was in 2009, when he was on target for United against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Ronaldo will be determined to make an impact for Juventus against Manchester United
Ronaldo was twice unable to score for Sporting Lisbon against Mourinho’s Porto and that was also the case when he played for United against the Portuguese side.
The trend continued when Mourinho went to Chelsea, although Ronaldo did manage to provide an assist for Darren Fletcher against the Blues in 2005.
Ronaldo will perhaps be grateful that he hasn’t had to face a Mourinho side too often in recent years.
The last time they met was in the 2017 UEFA Super Cup, although Ronaldo was on the pitch for just seven minutes on that occasion.
