Man Utd warned they could have their own Mudryk after Rasmus Hojlund debut

Manchester United have been warned they could have another Mykhaylo Mudryk on their hands. Rasmus Hojlund had a promising debut against Arsenal on Sunday but Darren Bent is yet to be convinced.

United signed Hojlund from Atalanta in early August for a fee worth up to £72million. The Denmark international signed a five-year contract with the option of a third.

He arrived with a back injury and wasn’t able to be in contention to play until the trip to the Emirates at the weekend. Hojlund came off the bench to replace Anthony Martial with 23 minutes of normal time remaining.

He caused Arsenal a few concerns and won a couple of battles with Gunners defender Gabriel. United boss Erik ten Hag felt Hojlund deserved a penalty when he went down under a tussle with the Brazilian.

Claims were waved away but the initial signs for United are that Hojlund will be a handful up front. But former Tottenham striker Bent is reserving judgement until he sees more of the 20-year-old.

The pundit has compared Hojlund’s cameo off the bench to that of Mudryk, who impressed on his Chelsea debut at Liverpool in January. However, the £88m signing has struggled ever since in a Chelsea shirt.

Bent was on talkSPORT on Monday when presenter Andy Goldstein brought Hojlund into the discussion. He said: “How good does Hojlund look? He looked fantastic. Saw him for 20 minutes.”

Bent was sharp with his response comparing Hojlund’s debut to Mudryk’s. He replied: “Mate I saw Mudryk look unbelievable against Liverpool and he’s looked awful since!”

United will be hoping Hojlund doesn’t go down the same route as Mudryk. The Chelsea winger hasn’t started a game under new boss Mauricio Pochettino and is yet to score his first Premier League goal.

United manager Erik ten Hag was happy with what he saw from Hojlund in north London. However, he hinted that he has a battle for a starting spot with Anthony Martial.

Ten Hag said: “I think he [Hojlund] played very good. But also I think Anthony Martial’s was a very good performance, so I was pleased and definitely I think Rasmus Hojlund had [a] very good impact on the game.”

Hojlund will now join up with the Denmark squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland. United will hope he can get valuable minutes into his tank before returning to Old Trafford in a couple of weeks’ time.
