Man Utd transfer alternatives with Dayot Upamecano set to stay at RB Leipzig

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have to look elsewhere for a new centre-back with Dayot Upamecano set to stay at RB Leipzig.

United have been heavily linked with the Frenchman as Solskjaer looks to strengthen his back-line this summer.

But RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann said of Upamecano: "He will be here for the season. I'm sure about that. As for the future, I'm not sure as he is very talented.

"Lots of clubs will want to buy – next season it could be real that he leaves the club. But this season he will stay.”

And Daily Star Sport has looked at three alternatives that could now be on Solskjaer’s radar.

Milan Skriniar

United have been keeping tabs on Inter Milan star Skriniar this summer but could face a battle for the Slovakian should they confirm their interest.

Tottenham and PSG are both also keen on the defender though reports suggest United could launch an official bid soon.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato reported earlier this month that Solskjaer sees Skriniar as the perfect fit to play alongside Harry Maguire.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Napoli star Koulibaly has regularly been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and that transfer talk is not going away just yet.

He has also been linked with a move to Manchester City, though United could have the upper-hand due to a disagreement between Napoli and the Etihad outfit.

He won’t come cheap though with the Serie A side rejecting a world record £91m bid for him last summer.

Benoit Badiashile

Reports last week suggested that Badiashile will remain at Monaco after the club rejected a sizeable bid from United.

Monaco boss Niko Kovac has no plans to let the 19-year-old go, saying: "We do not want to sell him, that is very clear, he will stay here this season. I think that this is the best solution for him.”

But United could test the Ligue 1 side with another bid with the first offer reportedly at £22m.
