Man Utd stars forced to wear ‘replica items of kit’ in latest huge embarrassment

Manchester United players have been forced to wear kit that can be found in the club shop amid another blunder involving the Old Trafford club.

The players have reportedly found the match socks too tight around the calves, with some players resorting to cutting holes in the socks. As a result, some have been wearing replica socks since the second game of the season, reports the Daily Mail.

In another issue, goalkeeper Andre Onana has had problems with his jersey. After finding the match shirt too tight, he is said to have switched to a looser replica top. Onana reportedly made the change after United’s 2-1 win at lowly Sheffield United last month.

United renewed their kit sponsorship deal with sportswear giants Adidas only this summer. The deal, worth almost £1billion, will net United a guaranteed £90million per year over 10 seasons. Therefore, reports of problems with the kit are a major embarrassment to both United and the German manufacturer, which has now produced club gear for the last eight years.

Announcing the deal, Red Devils CEO Richard Arnold said at the time: “The relationship between Manchester United and Adidas is one of the most iconic in world sport, forged through a shared commitment to style, flair and, most importantly, high performance.
