Man Utd new boy Donny van de Beek thinks Old Trafford fan return will help club

Donny van de Beek admits he cannot wait to have fans back inside Old Trafford.

And the Manchester United newcomer reckons having a full house behind them once again will make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men a force to be reckoned with.

Football continues to take place behind closed doors due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Leading sports bosses will hold crunch talks with Government officials this week to discuss the return of fans to events.

Senior figures from sporting bodies including the Premier League want supporters to be allowed back into stadiums as soon as possible.

Last week the Government restricted pilot events to just 1,000 spectators due to a rise in Covid-19 cases – and promised to review the situation from October 1.

Van de Beek, who joined United from Ajax in a £40m deal last month, is expected to make his league debut at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He is relishing the chance to prove himself on the big stage, but knows the experience will be even better once supporters are back inside Old Trafford.

The Holland international said: "Everyone has helped me a lot and wanted to make me feel at home and this is really good for me and it has given me the confidence to play.

"It's a family club, I feel this already from the first seconds I have been here.

"Old Trafford is an amazing stadium. The nicest thing will be when the fans are there too and I cannot wait to play for the first time in front of them.

"I hope to see them soon in the stadium because, for our team, they will give us a lot of power when we can have them with us."

Van de Beek is hoping to following in the footsteps of fellow Dutch stars Robin van Persie, Daley Blind and Edwin van der Sar at Old Trafford, who inspired him to watch United as a youngster.
