Man Utd meeting sees ‘uncomfortable behaviour’ from male to female staff raised

A female Manchester United staff member reportedly told club officials she has “witnessed uncomfortable behaviour from male employees” at the club.

According to reports, United chief executive Richard Arnold organised an all-staff meeting to thrash out any worries and concerns from members within the club. The Red Devils were heavily criticised for the way in which they handled the situation engulfing Mason Greenwood, who was loaned to La Liga side Getafe, soon after charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Over the course of their handling of the situation, female members of staff said they felt “ashamed” to be part of the club, while some others reportedly explored potential opportunities to strike. During the alleged meeting, Arnold was told by one staff member that she has seen “uncomfortable behaviour" from male members of staff.

In an answer written on a card to ensure complete anonymity, the question read: “I’m also very aware of comments that have recently been made public, as well as behind closed doors, by senior executives that suggest an unconscious bias within the club. “And what process is in place for female employees to speak up if they feel uncomfortable by the actions or comments of certain members of staff?”

Arnold replied by encouraging anybody who witnesses such behaviour to report it to the club. He said: “Any abusive, disrespectful or sexist language is not acceptable by anyone at this club. And anybody affected by that should report instances immediately, either to their line manager, to HR or an executive leadership team member.”

Arnold came under heavy criticism when the club were deliberating on whether to retain Greenwood or not. Manchester United supporter and former host of Countdown Rachel Riley lashed out at Arnold and suggested he should consider his position at the club.
