Man Utd issue statement as police begin proceedings into Antony allegations
Manchester United have broken their silence on the allegations against Antony, insisting they are “taking this matter seriously”. Antony was dropped from Brazil’s national squad for their upcoming international fixtures following fresh allegations of domestic violence, which the player strongly denies any wrongdoing.
Allegations against Antony first emerged earlier this summer from his ex-girlfriend and further accusations were made public on Monday. The Brazilian football federation subsequently dropped Antony while the investigation was going on.
And United have now released a statement of their own on the allegations against Antony. It read: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries.
“Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments. As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”
