Dimitar Berbatov says Manchester United will not find out if their efforts to sign Jadon Sancho will be successful until the final days of the transfer window as he predicts the saga to drag on for even longer.
United have spent most of their efforts in this transfer window trying to convince Borussia Dortmund to part with their winger.
The Bundesliga outfit are demanding a £108million fee and will not budge from their valuation.
It is yet to be seen if United will put together a suitable package and Berbatov feels there will be no clarity until the October 5 deadline draws closer.
“If they’re going to bring any new strikers – like they’re connected with Sancho for a long time now – if that’s going to happen probably we’re going to find out in the last days of the transfer window,” Berbatov told the MEN.
“Chelsea are doing some good business at the moment, they’ll be challenging the top teams.

“We will find out who is going and who is staying in the last two or three days of the transfer window. Sancho is a good alternative if it’s not too much money to spend on that signing, [then] go for it.”
If United do not sign Sancho then young striker Mason Greenwood will likely be asked to fill the void on the right side of the attack.
Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Greenwood scored more goals last term than Premier League winners Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino which proved to Berbatov they are more than capable of leading the line without reinforcements.
“I said in the past I never hid I’m a big admirer of Martial from the time we used to play together at Monaco,” Berbatov added.

“I like Rashford as well. Both of them, for me, need to start every game so they can become even better as players.
“For Greenwood, he deserves more playing time this season based on what he showed last season. I think he earned that privilege. And if he’s going to bring the goals again, that movement on the pitch – it depends on him – but, for sure, I’d like to see him play more.
“It’s always good to have as many good players as possible, although then you’re going to have a problem of trying to rotate them, try to keep them happy – everyone – which is at times an impossible job, trust me. Everybody is going to be questioning their minds.

“But if they decide to go and take [Sancho] I’m not going to blame them because Sancho is English, would probably like to go to England, for United, and that’ll be a good deal for them.
“If they don’t, they have three players – Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, they have Ighalo as well, who is a great back-up for the moment, too. So I think up there they’re pretty much covered.”
