Man Utd have five players fighting for their future after horror Man City loss
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag may need to take a ruthless approach to his squad in the coming weeks following a disappointing defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday. A promising start to the match quickly subsided after Erling Haaland’s opening goal with United players losing their heads towards the end of the match.
United fans voiced their disapproval at the final whistle after seeing their team lose for the fifth time already in 10 league games. Drastic changes are needed and some players who were on the pitch against City will undoubtedly be worried about their future.
Express Sport takes a look at five United stars who will have to figure out a way to turn their form around in the coming weeks.
Christian Eriksen
The Denmark international appeared to run out of gas in the second half against City and it cost United dearly. Ten Hag may think twice about relying on Eriksen now in a midfield unit that is already coming under intense scrutiny.
Jonny Evans
Similar to Eriksen, Jonny Evans may not have expected to be starting against Manchester City but he was found out against Erling Haaland. The kind of player who no doubt has a positive impact in the dressing room given his experience, but arguably shouldn’t be anywhere near United’s starting line-up in the future.
Marcus Rashford
The United attacker is in one of the worst slumps of his career and there doesn’t look any way out of it at the moment. Some fans are beginning to turn on the 25-year-old too with questions being asked on whether he can turn his fortune around.

Antony
Manchester United’s second-most expensive signing cut a frustrated figure on the bench and he appeared to take that bad attitude onto the pitch when he eventually came on. That petulant behaviour won’t sit well with the United fanbase who are already growing restless at the Brazilian’s lack of end product.
Mason Mount
Signing Mount was always going to be a risk for United with Bruno Fernandes holding down that role in the central attacking position. The England star’s best form at Chelsea came when he was the playmaker as well as getting amongst the goals.
But he looks far and away from his best form with no sign that he’s about to rediscover that any time soon at United. He’ll no doubt get more opportunities in the coming weeks, but he once again failed to change the game for United when he came on against City.
