Luis Diaz mum urges kidnappers to let husband go as Liverpool hero sends message

Luis Diaz's mum had told kidnappers to free her husband after her son dedicated a goal on his Liverpool return to his father.

Luis Manuel Diaz remains kidnapped eight days after he was abducted at gunpoint alongside wife Cilenis Marulanda who was later freed by police. The rebel National Liberation Army (ELN) group have since pledged to release him, without doing so.

After Diaz, 26, called for his father's freedom after scoring off the bench against Luton, Cilenis has sent another message to the rebel group after they pledged to release him imminently.

Wearing a T-shirt that read 'your family is waiting for you' Cilenis Marulanda said on Sunday: "I want them to release him now. That the people who are keeping him free him now back to me, because we want to have him back home."

Jurgen Klopp explained before Liverpool's draw against Luton that negotiations were ongoing, adding that they were positive in nature. He said: "It's still very, pretty emotional but Luis decided three days ago that he wanted to train again. I said it before that the training ground and football pitch is the safe place for the boys.

"There he can behave normal and forget for a few minutes a least what is going on but all the signs he gets I understand are very positive. Negotiations are ongoing but it's still positive and so that's why he wanted to be part of the team and he could come on as well."

Following his late header, Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports: "What he and his family have been through in the past few weeks, you can't help but feel absolute joy.
