Luis Diaz has broken his silence on the ‘significant human error’ that saw his goal for Liverpool against Tottenham wrongly disallowed.
The Colombian winger was played through on goal and found the back of the net, only to be flagged offside with the decision going to VAR to double check.
VAR official Darren England and assistant Dan Cook, failed to realise that the goal had been ruled out and failed to overturn the on-field decision.
The goal would have put Liverpool 1-0 up in a game they ultimately lost 2-1 after being reduced to nine men, with manager Jurgen Klopp since calling for a replay.
Diaz has remained silent on the matter, but has now admitted that the disallowed goal ‘hit him hard’ during an interview with Colombian outlet El Heraldo.

‘The goal issue was a bit complicated. At the time it hit me very hard, but not only to me, but to all my team-mates.
‘In the middle of the game we talked about it a lot, it (would have been) a positive result that was going to help us.
‘These are things that happen, the referees are human. You have to take it easy and for the next one it will be.’
The incident has sparked much debate over the future of VAR, particularly after the audio footage of how the incident came about was released.
Diaz’s manager, Klopp, called for a replay last week, due to the unprecedented nature of what happened.
He said: ‘We need to deal with it in a proper way. The people involved did not do it on purpose.
‘Not as the manager of Liverpool, but more as a football person, the only outcome should be a replay.
Jurgen Klopp called for a replay after PGMOL admitted a ‘significant human error’ was made and the audio of how the error was made by VAR was published
‘That’s how it is, probably won’t happen. The argument against that will be if we open that gate, everyone will ask for it, but the situation is so unprecedented.’
England and Cook were stood down from this past weekend’s round of games, while Howard Webb, chief refereeing officer of PGMOL, will appear on TV this week to discuss key decisions.
In-game audio of on-field officials and VAR teams will be released on a regular basis for the rest of the season.
