Follow all the action as champions Liverpool host newly promoted Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side ended their 30-year title drought in spectacular fashion last season, storming to victory by 18 points, but have only made on addition to their squad, with back-up full-back Kostas Tsimikas arriving from Olympiacos.
Leeds, meanwhile, finally end their top-flight exile after winning the Championship under maverick coach Marcelo Bielsa last season. Follow the end of Crystal Palace vs Southampton and then all the action live from Anfield below:
15 mins: van Dijk plays the ball up to Robertson and Meslier comes flying out of the box. He clears it as far as Mane who shoots from a long way out and finds the back of the net. Robertson was offside though and the goal doesn’t stand.
Liverpool 1 – 1 Leeds – Harrison
12 mins: GOAL! Leeds are level. A long ball comes up to Harrison and his first touch to bring the ball down completely does for Alexander-Arnold. He brings the ball into the box, goes past Gomez and fires home a beautiful strike.
9 mins: Helder Costa scores… but he’s offside and it doesn’t count. The ball was worked well by Leeds and comes into the box from the right. Bamford squirts it to Costa who is in front of the Liverpool centre-backs and he taps it in. If anything Leeds have proven they can score.
6 mins: Welcome back to the Premier League, Leeds. Liverpool have made a blistering start to the game. Salah is having a ball over on the right side. He breaks into space and passes to Mane in the box. Mane returns the pass and Salah shoots but Ayling blocks it.
Liverpool 1 – 0 Leeds – Salah
4 mins: GOAL! Salah thunders it home, and Liverpool lead.
4 mins: Penalty to Liverpool! Salah takes a shot and it hits Koch on the arm.
3 mins: Liverpool cut through the Leeds defence with ease. Naby Keita bursts through the midfield and slots the ball into the box for Roberto Firmino. He could shoot be chooses to cut it back to Keita and Meslier can smother the ball.
Kick off: Liverpool get the match started and put the ball out for a Leeds throw in on the left hand side.
The teams head out onto the pitch. Anfield was a fortress for Liverpool last season and there’s no tougher game to welcome Leeds back into the Premier League. Let’s see what they’ve got.
