Liverpool have been told to endeavour in their efforts to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.
The Spain international dazzled to help the Germans lift a sixth European Cup last weekend, beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0.
But that could have been his final appearance for the club with the midfielder keen to move on to pastures new.
With one year left on his contract in Bavaria, Thiago could be available for as little as £30million.
Liverpool are the team that are being most heavily linked with the player, who would add some creativity to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
Recent reports claim personal terms have been agreed and all that now stands between the transfer is the two clubs agreeing a fee.
And European football expert Julien Laurens thinks signing Thiago would be a fantastic signing for the newly-crowned Premier League champions.
“I think Thiago would look great in any midfield in the world right now, he’s that good,” said Laurens.
“He would bring something different that Liverpool don’t currently have. He would also be part of the press that the team plays with.
“He would maybe need a little bit of time to adapt, but he proved with Bayern Munich that he can do it, he can be part of that.
“At that price, especially, even if there’s been a few injuries through the years and this season, I still think you take the risk.
“It’s not even a risk, you’d go for him every day, and he’ll make your team better, for sure.

“I’m even surprised other teams aren’t going for him, even Manchester City and PSG, for me it’s a no-brainer. Every team should sign him.”
Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney thinks Thiago is that good that signing him would tip next season’s title race in Liverpool’s favour.
“I do think it is between City and Liverpool and if Liverpool get Thiago from Bayern Munich, I think it is done [the title],” he said.
