Liverpool to rethink Mo Salah replacement as alternative signing pens new deal
Liverpool will have to reconsider any plans they have to replace Mohamed Salah with Nico Williams. The Spanish winger has been linked with a move to Anfield but has now signed a new contract with current club Athletic Bilbao.
Replacing Salah is not a topic Liverpool want to consider. The Egyptian has been in top form again this season and is now one goal shy from 200 in all competitions for the Reds.
However, links of a move to Saudi Arabia are likely to increase again as we edge closer to the January transfer window. Liverpool will do all they can to prevent Salah from leaving mid-season and he will likely want to stay and fight for what could be a second Premier League title.
But Liverpool know there is a chance they may not be able to stop him from going beyond next summer. Saudi chiefs are still determined to land the 31-year-old after Al-Ittihad’s failed move in August and September.

Replacing Salah will be an unenviable task when indeed it does happen. But it appears Williams won’t be making the move to Merseyside anytime soon.
The 21-year-old has built a reputation as one of Europe’s exciting young wingers. His performances for Athletic Bilbao and Spain have seen him also linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Barcelona.
But it was confirmed on Friday that he had committed his future to his current club. His previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season.
He has now signed a new contract through to the end of the 2026/27 campaign. Upon signing, Williams said: “I’m very happy to be here in Bilbao and to stay with this great family.”

“I’ve been here since I was 11. This is a dream come true. Now I have to keep working hard.”
Liverpool will therefore have to look elsewhere when the day finally comes that Salah leaves the club. The 31-year-old will undoubtedly go down as one of the best players in the Reds’ illustrious history.
His strike against LASK in the Europa League on Thursday was his 199th in just his 324th game in all competitions since joining from Roma in 2017. He has 13 goals in total so far this season and not many would bet against him reaching his next milestone in Sunday’s home Premier League match against Fulham.
