Liverpool prepared to wait until October to snap up Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool are prepared to wait until October to complete the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

The Reds have been reluctant to meet the Bundesliga club’s £27m asking price this summer.

And talkSPORT say they are happy to hold off until the final week of the transfer window to make their move, in order to get the best deal possible.

Thiago's contract expires in 2021 and Bayern don't want to lose him for nothing next year.

Barcelona have been linked with a return for the 29-year-old but Anfield appears to be his most likely destination.

Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Thiago, although Liverpool are working within a budget after winning the Premier League title.

The covid-19 pandemic has left Liverpool wary of spending big in the market and they are happy to continue bringing younger talents through from the academy.

Thiago, though, would add star quality to the Reds’ midfield, and Georginio Wijnaldum could still impact on the Spaniard’s future.

If Liverpool let Dutchman Wijnaldum go soon, it could then see a move for Thiago rushed through.

Wijnaldum is wanted by former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, and he could lure him to the Nom Camp.

The Liverpool ace also has just one year remaining on his deal, and his future remains uncertain on Merseyside.

If Wijnaldum does stay, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will push for a late deal for Thiago, but they are happy to wait for now.

Liverpool do have options in the middle of the park, even after Adam Lallana’s departure in the summer as he joined Brighton on a free transfer.

The Reds kicked off the new campaign with a 4-3 victory over newly-promoted Leeds United, with captain Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Wijnaldum all starting the game on Saturday.

Curtis Jones and Fabinho, meanwhile, appeared from off the bench.
