Liverpool hit with third blow from Tottenham game after two red cad suspensions
Liverpool are still suffering from the fallout of their controversial defeat to Tottenham at the weekend after learning Cody Gakpo will be out for several weeks with an injury.
The 24-year-old picked up a knock while scoring Liverpool's equaliser in first-half injury time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He was subbed off for Diogo Jota at the break and was later spotted leaving the ground in a knee brace.
According to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, the former PSV forward could be out until next month. The injury means that Jurgen Klopp will be without three senior stars heading into their clash against Brighton at the weekend.

Both Jota and Curtis Jones were sent off against Spurs and will begin serving their suspensions after Liverpool's Europa League tie against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday. Jota will serve a one-match ban as he was dismissed after picking up two controversial yellow cards, while Jones will be out for three matches after being handed a straight red for a challenge initially ruled as a yellow card, then upgraded after the intervention of VAR.
This, combined with a 96th-minute own goal and a monumental VAR blunder which wrongly ruled out Luis Diaz's perfectly legitimate first-half strike made it one heck of a bad day at the office for the Reds. The 2-1 defeat not only ended their undefeated start to the season, but also saw Tottenham leapfrog them into second place in the Premier League.

The Diaz gaffe has sent English football into something of a mini meltdown. Calls to amend or even can the technology have intensified, with faith in VAR arguably at an all-time low.

The PGMOL issued an apology of sorts – their 14th since February 2022 – after the game, insisting that "significant human error" was to blame. Liverpool, meanwhile, released a statement promising to "escalate" the issue and demanding action be taken after the officials' failure to apply the law correctly.
