Liverpool fans brand Lionel Messi Ballon d’Or 2019 win a ‘joke’

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has been voted the best player in the world, after winning the 2019 Ballon d’Or.

Messi was in fine form this year and is certainly deserving of his sixth Ballon d’Or trophy.

However, Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk also had an excellent year after transforming the Reds’ defence and helping them win a sixth Champions League.

It was expected to be close between the two footballing giants and, ultimately, it was Messi who won the vote.

Despite this, a number of Reds supporters have been left fuming with the decision as they believe Van Dijk had the more successful year.
