Furious Liverpool were left ‘in shock’ by their side’s display against Toulouse in the Europa League.
Jurgen Klopp’s decision to make nine changes backfired as the Reds were beaten 3-2 in a game which saw another bout of VAR controversy as Jarell Quansah’s last-gasp strike was ruled after Alexis Mac Allister was deemed to have handled in the build-up. Earlier, Aron Donnum gave the Ligue 1 side the lead nine minutes before the break and Thijs Dallinga made it two 13 minutes into the second half.
When Liverpool did find the net, the goal came from a Toulouse player as Cristian Casseres put the ball past his own keeper, but the hosts restored their two-goal lead through Frank Magri on 76 minutes. Diogo Jota pulled another goal back for Klopp’s side in the 89th minute.

The Reds then thought they had levelled through youngster Quansah, who had replaced ill captain Virgil van Dijk in the side, with the referee appearing to give the goal by pointing to the centre circle. However, amid farcical scenes, he was then told to go to his pitchside screen and, after reviewing Mac Allister’s part in the goal, decided to rule it out.
The defeat was Liverpool’s first dropped points in the group stage and while they remain top of Group F, fans weren’t impressed with the display. One fumed: “We should be ashamed.”

“B******* lads, this is shocking,” blasted another. Following Manchester United’s dramatic defeat to Copenhagen in the Champions League, a third said: “Did we laugh at United just to get embarrassed by the team from farmer's league.”
Another simply declared: “Embarrassing.” A fifth moaned: "This is so so embarrassing, I am in shock." One described it as a "Very shambolic display".
The performance left one fan fearing for the season as a whole, saying: "We are bad. Simple as that. We’d be lucky to finish top 5."
Liverpool complete their group stage campaign with a home game against LASK on November 30 and a trip to Union Saint-Gilloise on December 14.
