Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t sign Paul Pogba ‘even for free’ claims ex-Man Utd ace

Man Utd: Pogba hones skills amid exit talk

Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t bring Paul Pogba to Liverpool, even if he could do it for free. That’s the view of former Manchester United midfielder Johnny Giles, who has claimed Sir Alex Ferguson also wouldn’t put up with him, if he was still at the club.

Pogba’s future has rarely been out of the headlines in recent months, after the Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola claimed he will look to leave Old Trafford in 2021.

The midfielder has just 18 months left on his deal at United and Raiola has claimed he has no plans of signing a contract extension.

Despite his uncertain future, Pogba has started five of the last seven Premier League games, in a run of fixtures that have seen United insert themselves into the Premier League title race.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can move ahead of old rivals Liverpool at the top of the table with a win next week.

However, even with his improving form, Leeds legend Giles, has claimed that Klopp wouldn’t take Pogba at Anfield, with the German unwilling to accept his inconsistent form.

“Manchester United, you could pick 11 players, and on the day, they could be brilliant, and then the next day, not so good,” Giles told the Off the Ball Podcast.

“Then you also have the Pogba influence. I don’t want to keep going on about Pogba but it’s a fact.

“He’s still there, four years after he joined the club and they’re still talking about ‘if he does this, will he do that and on his day’. That’s not good enough.

“I’ve said to people, in my opinion, if you said to Klopp that he could have Pogba for nothing, I don’t think he’d take him.

“He’d say ‘I don’t need that guy’. He wouldn’t put up with the way Pogba’s behaved since he’s been there. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. He wouldn’t put up with that.”

Pogba is in his second spell with the Red Devils, after Sir Alex decided to sell him to Juventus following a frosty chat with Raiola.

Giles went on to suggest that Klopp’s similarities with Ferguson, mean he would also be unwilling to accomdate the 27-year-old.

“You look at the Liverpool players and I think they’re terrified of Klopp,” Giles said.

“When Ferguson was at Manchester United, players were terrified of him and that’s the way you need it, as they know they won’t get away with anything.

“Pogba was only a young player when Fergie first got him out of the club.

He added: “I’m not blaming Pogba for everything, he’s a very talented guy.

“But, in a club where you want to win things and have everyone working for you, I can’t see Ferguson putting up with him while he was there and I certainly couldn’t see Klopp putting up with him at all.”
