Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has suggested Lionel Messi should feel ashamed of his performance against Manchester City.
Messi has had a difficult start to life at Paris Saint-Germain, finding the back of the net just four times in ten games since his stunning move from Barcelona in the summer.
His acquisition was meant to be the cherry on top of cake for PSG, who can also call upon the attacking services of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
However, the Ligue 1 giants have yet to see the best of the much vaunted front three, with the trio once again failing to click on Wednesday against City.
All three men came in for heavy criticism as the big-spending French giants fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Etihad.
Real Madrid target Mbappe opened the scoring for Mauricio Pochettino's side, but City fought back in the second half and claimed all three points courtesy of Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva.
Messi struggled to make his presence felt against the Premier League champions, leading former Spurs star Van de Vaart to suggest he should be ashamed of his recent performances.

"He goes for a walk now and then and I think, ‘Aren’t you ashamed?’ I’m starting to get angry with Messi and that’s a shame because a player like that will never be born again," Van der Vaart told Ziggo Sports.
"It started with Ronald Koeman. It was actually a refusal to work and that’s not right for a player like Messi.
"It’s a question of will. Either you want it or not. If he doesn’t score or provide an assist, then he’s made a bad game.
"Neymar is different, he sees more. Mbappe too. Somehow, Messi and PSG just do not fit at all."
As has been the case for much of their careers, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to be compared to each other following their respective summer moves.
Ronaldo has found the net 10 times since his return to Manchester United, but he too has come in for criticism for a lack of work-rate and pressing off the ball.
Despite that, Van der Vaart believes the Portuguese forward is doing much more than Messi to help his new team reach a "new level".
"They are completely different players, but Ronaldo is fighting. He wants to take the team to a new level", added the Dutchman.
