Ligue 1 star ‘threatens to jump off bridge’ as emergency services rush to scene

Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer gets '70 to 80 per cent' go ahead from La Liga chief

A professional footballer from Ligue 1 side Nice is reportedly threatening to jump off of the Magnan Bridge after breaking up with his partner. Emergency services have rushed to the scene and are currently negotiating with the unnamed star for him to get down from the height.

Firefighters and a psychologist are also in attendance as they hope to assist the suicidal player off of the bridge. Nice have cancelled their press conference which was scheduled for Friday afternoon ahead of their match against Brest on Sunday.

The club were also opening their training to the media on Friday morning but the press have now been asked to leave the premises.

According to local news outlet Nice Matin, a player has stopped on the hard shoulder of the A8 motorway and is threatening to jump off of the Magnan Bridge, which is approximately 100 metres high. The player is said to have become suicidal after a recent breakup from his partner.

Police are positioned nearby and are attempting to speak with the player to try and persuade him away from the edge of the edge, with some also beneath the bridge at 359 de la Madeleine. Some members of the armed forces are also in attendance.

RMC Sport report that the player’s ex-girlfriend has been contacted and she is making her way towards Magnan Bridge. Nice have sent a psychologist to the A8 as well to try and talk down the player, with a ‘crisis’ meeting ongoing.
