Leeds rocked after top target visits city centre then decides to cancel transfer
A top Leeds United transfer target has snubbed the club at the last minute – after visiting the Yorkshire city.
The Elland Road side had been on the brink of tying up the £5million signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri, who has five caps for his country. The transfer had progressed enough for the German to travel from Dusseldorf to Leeds with his family, reports the Daily Mail.
He reportedly visited the club’s training ground, spoke to officials and had a tour of the city centre, where he was spotted by Leeds supporters. However, soon after his visit, Amiri stunned the club by pulling out of the transfer.
German outlet Kicker reports that personal terms had been agreed on a four-year contract before Amiri’s sudden change of heart. The fact the 26-year-old’s first child is due soon has been cited as a factor in his change of heart.

German boss Daniel Farke is desperate to strengthen his squad as he looks to steer Leeds back to the Premier League following relegation last season.
The likes of Tyler Adams, Rodrigo, Robin Koch, Max Wober, Jack Harrison and Marc Roca have all left Elland Road, with Farke now forced to focus on other targets ahead of Friday night’s deadline.

Tottenham defender Djed Spence has emerged as another target for Leeds, who could take the former Nottingham Forest loan star on a season-long deal. Spence has barely figured since his £20million move from Middlesbrough last summer. Spurs would prefer a permanent sale but a loan deal is said to be more likely at present.
Leeds have made an underwhelming start to the season with five points from four games, although they did secure a thrilling 4-3 win at high-flying Ipswich Town last weekend.
