Laporta says 'he WILL sign Erling Haaland' at Barcelona this summer

Bullish Joan Laporta ‘tells his Barcelona board members that he WILL sign Erling Haaland this summer’ despite the club’s financial woes, as he looks to fend off interest from rivals Real Madrid in transfer chase

  • Erling Haaland is widely expected to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer
  • Barcelona are one of the clubs at the front of the queue to snap up the striker
  • Joan Laporta has reportedly told the board that he is confident over the move

Bullish Barcelona president Joan Laporta has told his board members that he will sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland next summer, reports say.

Haaland is widely expected to move on at the end of the season in a sensational big-money switch, with Barcelona one of the clubs near the front of the queue.

It was initially believed that they would fall behind in the chase as a result of their financial woes, but after snapping up Ferran Torres, they appear back in business.

As a result, Laporta is actively keeping his eyes open for potential incomings, and he is hell bent on bringing in Haaland as a marquee signing.

Marca, via The Mirror, have claimed that the club chief is confident about his chances of pulling the transfer off – and the ace would be crucial to his project.

But the same publication have also labelled the scramble at both Barcelona and rivals Real Madrid to come out on top as a ‘war’.

There appears to be funds in the Nou Camp war chest with Torres brought in for £55million, and Laporta has now claimed that the club are ‘back’ as big players.

Haaland has a release clause worth £64m, with the striker expected to leave Dortmund soon

Haaland has a release clause worth £64million in his contract and his agent, Mino Raiola, name-dropped Barcelona as one of the four clubs pushing to sign him.

Laporta has a strong relationship with the influential Raiola, having worked with him before to land Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his first reign at the helm.

Last month, Barcelona held a meeting with Raiola, and were handed a boost when Haaland reportedly announced he would like to play in Spain during his career.

This season, the red-hot marksman has scored 19 goals from 16 appearances across all competitions, and also recorded five assists.
