Martin Keown has warned Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could be ‘out the door’ with a couple more defeats ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday.
Man United have endured a difficult start to the season with the Red Devils heading into the derby with Man City in eighth place in the Premier League.
Ten Hag’s side have won three successive wins, including a 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Former Arsenal defender Keown has claimed that despite the upturn in results, Man United have not delivered consistent performances.
Keown highlighted Man Unitedâs âstrugglesâ to beat Sheffield United with Ten Hagâs side battling to a 2-1 win over the rock bottom Blades, as well as narrow early season wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest.Â

‘I don’t see convincing performances from Manchester United at the moment. I see scrambling over the line wins,’ Keown told talkSPORT.
‘They don’t control games and they have the players to do that. Then you look at the manager and you wonder if he’s out of his depth.Â
‘This game [Manchester derby] puts him under huge pressure but they’re not expected to win that game so it’s almost a bonus for them, I do see City winning it.’
Keown insisted that Ten Hag could be under pressure to keep his job if Man United suffer another run of poor results.
He claimed the club’s former players would have been calling for ex-Man United boss Jose Mourinho to be sacked had his team produced the same results and performances.
‘If this was Mourinho in situ then I’m pretty certain all the former players would be on the bandwagon saying they want him out,’Â Keown said.
‘I don’t know if his [Ten Hag’s] public relations are very good but what I’m seeing with my own eyes, I don’t see a convincing performance. Because he’s getting results, he’s in there fighting and he’s got a chance.
Keown suggested there would have been calls for Jose Mourinho to be sacked had he delivered similar performances and results while he was Man United bossÂ
Keown believes Ten Hag could be ‘out the door’ should Man United have another poor run
‘This is the biggest opportunity they’ll get at the weekend, but I don’t see Man City slipping on again. It can’t happen.
‘Potentially he’s out of his depth it looks like he is right now. They’re just hanging on to get results. If he goes on another run of two or three defeats I think he’s out the door.’
Keown, however, said he was pleased to see Harry Maguire back in the Man United starting eleven, adding that the summer signing Sofyan Amrabat was a ‘big plus’ in midfield.Â
Man United will look to make a dent in their six point deficit to Man City in the derby on Sunday.
The Red Devils are sweating on the fitness of Casemiro, who races a race against time to be fit for the match.
Ten Hag has urged his side to become more consistent ahead of the clash with their rivals at Old Trafford.Â
