Keane: I'd swap Grealish for Pogba 'TOMORROW'… and bring in Kane

Roy Keane has said he’d like to see Jack Grealish and Harry Kane join Manchester United, rubbishing Jamie Carragher’s suggestion that the Red Devils would not target the Aston Villa man as the Irishman says he’d swap him for Paul Pogba ‘TOMORROW’

  • The Sky Sports pundit would like to see Jack Grealish and Harry Kane at the club
  • The Irishman also said he’d swap the midfielder with Paul Pogba ‘tomorrow’
  • Grealish was one of the Premier League’s best players before suffering an injury
  • Kane is the league’s top scorer and assist-maker in yet another excellent season
  • Pogba has had arguably his best season at United – but his future is in doubt

Roy Keane has rubbished Jamie Carragher’s suggestion that Manchester United will not go after Jack Grealish this summer and said he would swap the Aston Villa star for Paul Pogba ‘tomorrow’, as well as saying he’d like to see Harry Kane join forces with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The pair were speaking on Sky Sports during coverage for the Red Devils’ clash against Liverpool, which was ultimately postponed after United fans stormed Old Trafford to demand that the Glazers step down as owners of the club.

Grealish and Kane have long been linked to a move to the Europa League semi-finalists, with Keane saying that he would like to see both players at the Theatre of Dreams.

Keane also thinks the Red Devils should go for league top scorer Harry Kane ‘whatever it costs’

‘The two players I’ve thought about over the past couple of weeks who I think would be brilliant for Manchester United, I’d go for Harry Kane – whatever it costs – and I’d also go for (Jack) Grealish,’ the seven-time Premier League winner said.

‘United are still short of that special player. I think Grealish would give them that. He’d enjoy playing at Old Trafford, I think the fans would love him.

‘What I admire about Jack, I think he’s got great courage on a football pitch, he’s great in tight areas. Over the last year or two, his end product has improved. He’s an excellent player.

‘We know Kane would guarantee goals. Would it be difficult to get these two players? You bet your life it would be, but Manchester United have to go and try and get the best otherwise we’ll be having the same conversation next year about United nearly being there.

‘I think Jack would be ready for Manchester United. Villa are a big club and they’re doing very well, but I think Jack, we talk about players being selfish, Harry Kane being selfish – well, Jack has to be selfish and look to step up to the next level.’

Kane is enjoying another fantastic season in front of goal, having eclipsed 20 Premier League this season for the fifth campaign in his career.

He has become an assist machine this term, teeing up 13 league goals to put him top of the pile, two ahead of Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne and three clear of Grealish and Son Heung-min.

Grealish was one of the form players in English football for the first five months of this season as his relentless energy and guile put Villa in the conversation for a Champions League place.

However, his absence since the middle of February has coincided with Dean Smith’s men picking up just 12 points from 11 games.

Grealish’s superb form for the first five months of the season had Villa in top-four contention

However, the 25-year-old midfielder has not played since mid-February due to a shin injury

The 25-year-old has been nursing a shin injury and suffered a setback in his recovery a few weeks ago.

However, it is still expected that the creative midfielder will be fit in time to feature for England at this summer’s Euros and Keane had no hesitation in saying that he would bring in Grealish at Pogba’s expense.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has arguably had his most consistent season at United, scoring winners against Burnley, Fulham and AC Milan in the Europa League, but the murmurings of discontent from his agent Mino Raiola mean that the chance of the midfielder extending his stay at Old Trafford beyond 2022 is still hanging in the balance heading into this summer’s transfer window.

Kane’s assist-making has taken his deadly partnership with Son Heung-min to new heights

Carragher said that the attacking options at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disposal mean that Grealish might not be a priority, but Keane shot back: ‘Jack, not for Manchester United? So what, they’ve had Pogba for the last three or four years, has he got them anywhere near winning league titles? Absolutely not.

‘I’d swap Grealish for Pogba tomorrow, absolutely. Of course (they can all play together). Why not?

‘We look at the stats for Manchester United over the last few years, whether it’s getting to semi-finals or ten league games where they’ve drawn, seven or eight of them have been 0-0.

‘They’ve not had the quality in the crunch times. You can talk about Pogba, but they’ve not done it when they’ve had to do it.

Pogba has had arguably his best season to date for United and scored three winning goals

The murmurings of his agent Mino Raiola mean his Red Devils future remains unclear though

‘If Grealish comes in, get rid of one or two of them, get rid of Pogba, move him on.

‘They’re talking about a contract. I think they’re worried because he’s into the last year. If they’re going to cash in on him, then do it this summer.

‘You can’t have enough quality players at a club like Manchester United.’
