Chris Sutton has claimed that Kai Havertz looks like a broken man with zero confidence after the midfielder’s dismal display against West Ham.
On Wednesday night, Arsenal were dumped out of the Carabao Cup following a 3-1 defeat to their London rivals – with Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and a Ben White own goal separating the sides.
Former Chelsea star Havertz played the full 90 minutes for Mikel Arteta’s side and failed to have any significant impact on the match, as his side crashed out the cup.
It was yet another disappointing display from the player who the Gunners splashed out £65million on in the summer, in a bid to boost their title charge.
And, on Mail Sport’s It’s All Coming Up podcast, Sutton explained why the German international ‘needs a big moment’ to kick-start his Arsenal career.

Sutton said: ‘Havertz looks a broken man, a plyer with absolutely zero confidence. Having been there myself, it’s not a nice place to be.
‘The effort is there but he seems muddled. decision-making isn’t good. He’s trying but looking at his body language… he needs a break, a big moment. Not sympathy penalties like earlier in the season’.
Against Bournemouth in September, Havertz was allowed to take a spot-kick for the Gunners – with the side already 2-0 up – and open his account for the club.
However, he has failed to find the back of the net since then and has only picked up one assist in the process.
Sutton’s views are shared by a former Arsenal star, William Gallas, who recently slammed Havertz’s performances for the Gunners.
‘I’m not impressed with Kai Havertz so far,’ he told Lord Ping. ‘He’s done nothing since he joined Arsenal.
‘He may have scored, but that was only because Martin Odegaard let him take a penalty! Havertz hasn’t done anything yet, and I think he’s in trouble.’

Havertz secured a £65million move from Chelsea to Arsenal and became Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the summer as the Spaniard looks to push on after the Gunners’ second place finish last season.
Speaking at the time, Havertz said: ‘It’s super exciting for me to be joining this amazing club and to be part of the Arsenal family. This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things’.
In his 16 appearances for Arsenal, Havertz has found the back of the net on one occasion and picked up one assist.
During his three year stint at Chelsea, the German recorded 32 goals and 15 assists from 139 appearances.
