Kai Havertz has thanked Fikayo Tomori for handing over his shirt number ahead of the new season.
And the defender has admitted that he is happy to comply after the numbers were announced by Chelsea.
The German midfielder has joined from Bayer Leverkusen on a deal worth up to £72m.
He arrived to a huge fanfare after a summer-long pursuit but the 21-year-old has an affinity with the number 29.
However, Tomori had owned the shirt after a breakthrough campaign at Stamford Bridge last season.
Havertz was desperate to land the kit with his new club and Tomori has amicably handed it over.
In an Instagram exchange, the Germany international posted a picture captioned: "Thank you @fikayotomori – 29."
And Tomori replied: "It suits you bro."
Frank Lampard has plans on making Havertz a key part of his squad this season as he plots a way to the Premier League title.
The Englishman has spent over £200m on signings, that include Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
The Blues boss said: “It changes the landscape, yes, but I am excited by that as much as feeling the pressure.
"I understand the different nature of the pressure coming this year.
“It is why I love doing it. I didn't come into this job to fight for fourth place, although I know last year that it was an achievement.
“I didn't come in to just bring Academy players into the first-team and say I gave debuts to this many players, I came here to win.
“I know expectations will be there. I won't hide away from that.

"My expectations are on a different level from last year.
“Other people can talk about whether we challenge or not. We finished a lot of points behind Liverpool.
“We have to first look at closing the gap. I’m not jumping ahead and making any predictions.”
