Jurgen Klopp asks Liverpool chiefs to complete two more signings

Jurgen Klopp would like Liverpool to make two more signings before the transfer shuts on 5 October, reports say.

Liverpool have seen their desire to transfer business restricted by the financial difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic and missed out on top target Timo Werner earlier this summer as a result.

Chelsea fronted the cash for Werner and Liverpool’s efforts to land Jamal Lewis from Norwich City were also thwarted by asking prices.

Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas instead and Reds fans are fearful that will mark the end of their side’s transfer business.

But the Athletic claim Klopp has asked for more signings and would like to see the club complete one or two more transfers.

However, Klopp is fully aware of the financial realities of doing deals in the current window and will not put pressure on club chiefs to complete signings.

There is no friction with Klopp over his side’s lack of transfer activity and the German coach continues to have an excellent relationship with FSG president Mike Gordon and Michael Edwards.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of names including Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago and Watford forward Ismaila Sarr.

But the Reds have so far baulked at the asking prices for both players, with Watford demanding as much as £40m for Sarr and Thiago priced at £27m by Bayern.

Klopp would normally prefer Liverpool complete their transfer business as early as possible, but the rescheduled 2019/20 campaign, short pre-season and financial issues made that impossible.

The addition of another centre-back is a priority for the Reds after the exit for Dejan Lovren and Klopp is keen for more cover in defence.

There is a believe at Liverpool that asking prices could drop closer to transfer deadline day, which is still over three weeks away.
