Bukayo Saka’s penalty 10 minutes after the restart appeared to have swung the momentum firmly back in the Gunners’ favour after Spurs had hauled themselves back into the contest shortly before the break.
Mikel Arteta’s side, however, immediately shot themselves in the foot when Jorginho got himself in a tangle on the halfway line and conceded possession to James Maddison.
The England international carried the ball deep into opposition territory and played a perfect pass into Son Heung-min who made no mistake to register his 150th goal in Tottenham colours.
Rather than turn on their own player, the home crowd immediately chanted Jorginho’s name, while Oleksandr Zinchenko was quick to attempt to lift his teammates’ spirits.
‘A painful mistake today,’ admitted the experienced Italy international after the game.
‘But seeing how everyone reacted after it to support and lift me up, my teammates, coaches, staff and the fans, it gives me even more motivation to work harder, because all of you deserve my best version.
‘Thank you so much for the support Arsenal family.’
‘I love him, and we love him,’ said Arteta in his post match conference of the January signing from Chelsea, who replaced the injured Declan Rice at half time.
‘We all love him. That is a part of football, and they are allowed to make errors because they play.
‘We don’t play and for us it’s really easy, but if there is someone who is there that will help the team and do the most, it’s him. He’s got it, and for Jorgi, we’re all with him.’
