Joey Barton takes aim at Man Utd YouTuber and brands him ‘football virgin’

Joey Barton's social media rampage shows no signs of slowing down after he branded a Manchester United YouTuber a "football virgin".

The former Premier League midfielder, who got into hot water after criticising female football pundits and commentators, has been embroiled in a tense back-and-forth on X with Stephen Howson, who hosts the Vibe with Five podcast alongside United legend Rio Ferdinand.

Barton's controversial comments were brought up on a recent episode of the podcast and the panel suggested inviting the ex-Manchester City man on to discuss them. In response, Howson warned Barton: "If you're coming in here it'll be a hot day for you, son."

Taking to X the following day, Barton hit out at Howson by endlessly comparing him to a potato. He wrote: "Who is that big spud head? What’s he talking about? The big potato… You can’t even do 5 keep ups before you’re out of breath, you big Maris Piper."

He added: "Football Virgin. You’d get a stitch after playing real men’s football 5 mins ya big whopper. Couch Potato! You Leave the football to the Propers. Not the whoppers."

Howson bit back, writing: "Is this man talking about people’s ability to communicate, but speaks like a 9 year old got his phone. Joseph, call me what you want. I’ve been on YouTube for a decade. You think I’m hurt by someone calling me fat? Grow up you melon."

Barton then replied: "Spudly Howson. Listen, you won’t be doing any football talking when I’m about you little football virgin." He then told Ferdinand to "get your b****es in order."

The furore surrounding Barton began last week when the 41-year-old claimed that "any man who listens to women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing". He later appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored to defend his comments, and was heavily scrutinised by former Sky Sports presenter Bianca Westwood, among others.
