Chelsea will not win the Premier League title with Kepa Arrizabalaga as their goalkeeper, claims Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher. Sky Sports pundit Carragher has also raised doubts over Chelsea’s signing of the experienced Brazil centre-back Thiago Silva.
Arrizabalaga was dropped twice from the Premier League side by Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard last season.
The Spaniard has struggled at Stamford Bridge since his world-record £71.6million arrival from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.
Chelsea have spent big this summer in bringing in six new players, with Silva arriving on a free transfer.
Carragher has questioned whether the 35-year-old will be able to get up to the pace of the Premier League at his age after never playing in England before.

But he thinks it will be even more difficult for him with Arrizabalaga behind.
“You were never sure what was going to happen [with Chelsea’s defence] and I think playing [at Anfield] towards the end of the season was the perfect example of Chelsea,” Carragher said.

“Goals going in at either end and I still think that’s going to be the case.
“It will be a great watch but until they sort out the goalkeeping situation and centre-back to be honest.

“I love Thiago Silva, he’s been fantastic, but to come to the Premier League at 35, almost 36 I think in a couple of weeks, is a tough ask.
“We’ve seen players like Laurent Blanc come play with Gary [Neville] who was a World Cup winner and found it tough when he came, so it’s not easy to come.
“Thiago Silva won’t win the league with Kepa behind him.”
Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a move for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for an initial £18m.
And former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf believes Mendy would be an upgrade on Arrizabalaga.
“He’s a very good goalkeeper,” Leboeuf said on ESPN FC.
“I followed him when he was playing for Reims and he signed for Rennes after that.
“I know Petr Cech is very close to Rennes, playing two years there just before coming to Chelsea.
“I guess he has some people that he knows in the dressing room and at the club to know that Edouard Mendy is really a fantastic goalkeeper.
“I think he will serve better than Kepa Arrizabalaga did for the years he’s been at Chelsea and the amount of money Chelsea paid.
“Now the question mark will be what’s going to happen to Kepa if Mendy comes to Chelsea and plays in goal.”
