'I am not happy' – Jurgen Klopp fumes as his Liverpool side let a lead slip in pulsating draw at Arsenal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was not happy with one key area of his side’s performance as they conceded a late goal in a thrilling 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

Alexandre Lacazettte’s 82nd minute equaliser cancelled out James Milner’s opener for Liverpool, with Klopp admitting his side deserved nothing more than a point from their trip to Emirates Stadium.

“A point is a fair result, but we had clear chances to win and that is frustrating,” said Klopp. “We were not as compact defensively as I wanted in the first half and that gave Arsenal a chance to boss the game in the first half and we put too much onto our midfield to hold it together.

“They had a few chances for sure and they are in a good moment, but we were not at our best. We got a point, we deserved a point and we could have had more.

“I don’t feel like we dropped two points, but when I speak to Virgil van Dijk and he tells me he should have scored a hat-trick, I am reminded that we missed big chances.”

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane had a first half goal incorrectly ruled out for off-side, with Klopp bemoaning that decision as he met the media.

“I think it should’ve been a goal, that’s how it is,” he added. “It’s football… it was a brilliant attack, so it’s a pity it didn’t count, but we made a few more mistakes than the ref.

“There is only one person who can answer the question why it wasn’t a goal and that’s the linesman. That’s football. If he thought the first situation was offside then I think he was wrong, but it’s not going to change and we made more mistakes than the referee. It would have been cool if this goal could count.”

Arsenal boss Unai Emery took comfort from his side’s impressive performance, as he suggested Lacazette’s late leveller earned his side a deserved point.

“We wanted to win but the performance is good, we push and we work the match, doing our tactics and with our supporters pushing us with energy,” stated the Arsenal boss. “For the supporters it is a great match and a good spectacle but I am only 50 per-cent happy because we wanted to win.

“The balance was good in our speed and intensity. We worked very well for the 90 minutes and the two goals is the difference in the match. This is a point and a draw, maybe we deserve a little more.

“Every match is a good test for us, it is very important we continue our process and not to lose, our test is Thursday against Sporting Lisbon and Sunday against Wolves, to be in a good position in the table. I think today the supporters pushed a lot for us and the players feel it on the pitch to help us and that is a good combination.”
