Everton are facing a potentially sizable points deduction if they are found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules back in 2021-22.
An independent commission is currently handling the case after the club posted staggering financial losses of almost £372million over a three-year period, more than £250m above what the Premier League’s guidelines permits.
The commission will have say on the punishment and it could be suggested that Everton are given a fine, transfer embargo or deducted up to 12 points.
This season, that points deduction would put them on a total of minus five – but how would Everton have fared over the last three seasons?
Last year, Everton narrowly avoided relegation in a campaign that saw Frank Lampard sacked for Sean Dyche.

They ended up finishing in 17th place on 36 points, just two points above the drop zone.
If they had received a 12 point penalty, they would have finished bottom of the Premier League table and Leicester City could have avoided the drop.
This would have meant they finished below Southampton and Leeds United as well.
In the 2021-22 season, Lampard took over from Rafa Benitez after a brief stint from Duncan Ferguson as interim manager.
Everton finished on a higher total to last year with 39 points, but the 12 point deduction would have again seen Everton get relegated.
With Leeds on 38 points, the Toffees would have dropped to 18th place on 27 points meaning Burnley would have survived.
In the 2020-21 season, however, Everton would not have gone down if they received a points deduction as they finished the season in 10th on 59 points.
The penalty would have seen them drop only one place to 11th, below Aston Villa.
