Goal-shy Chelsea humiliated as three forwards let go this summer score in Europe
Goal-shy Chelsea’s miserable time in front of goal so far this season has been compounded after three forwards they let go in the summer were on the scoresheet in Europe in midweek.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have scored just five goals in five Premier League games this season, the second-lowest of any team outside of the relegation zone and the same as Sheffield United. And to further put their lack of goals in perspective, three of the five were scored at home against bottom of the league Luton Town.
Chelsea haven’t scored in their previous two games which saw them lose 1-0 at home against Nottingham Forest and draw away against Bournemouth. And while the Blues struggle to find the net, three forwards deemed not good enough at Stamford Bridge all scored in European competitions in midweek for their new clubs, while Chelsea watched the action from home having not qualified for any European competition.

On Tuesday night, former Blues loanee Joao Felix scored twice against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League during Barcelona’s 5-0 win, having signed on loan for the Catalan giants from Atletico Madrid.
There were also goals for Romelu Lukaku at Roma in the Europa League and a double for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Marseille in the Conference League 3-3 thriller against Ajax.

Lukaku and Aubameyang were seen as surplus to requirements at Chelsea this summer and the pair were replaced by £31.8million signing from Villarreal Nicolas Jackson, who has just one Chelsea goal to his name which came against Luton and he’s flattered to deceive in front of goal.
While Felix, who operates in a deeper role seeing him involved more with the build-up play rather than providing the final touch, didn’t return to the club with Chelsea opting to sign France international Christopher Nkunku for £52m, but he’s yet to feature after suffering a serious knee injury in pre-season.
Chelsea host Aston Villa on Sunday, and with Unai Emery’s side conceding 10 in their five league games so far, Pochettino will be demanding his side make their mark in front of goal.
