A furious Gary Neville has once again ripped into Manchester United’s controversial ownership and accused the Glazer family of treating the club like a ‘toy’.
As exclusively reported by Mail Sport, the Glazers are set to remove United from the market, having failed to generate bids close enough to their anticipated asking price. Unsurprisingly, the dramatic U-turn has generated fury among the fanbase.
The family made it known last November that they were open to offers for either 100 per cent of the club, or a partial sale that left them with a sizeable stake. Just two serious bidders, Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have emerged, however.
The lengthy saga has also left the interested parties frustrated over the Glazers’ uncertain stance, having been given little indication of where they stand.
And Neville, who has been particularly outspoken over United’s gradual drift in recent years, issued a fresh attack on the Glazers after the 3-1 defeat by Arsenal.

Sheikh Jassim was just one of two serious bidders to actively look to seal a mega takeover
He is, however, confident that they will ultimately sell up.
‘It’s just a game for them, they think it’s a toy!’ Neville raged on the latest edition of his Sky podcast. ‘Of course they’re going to sell. They’re desperate for money.
‘They can’t even compete on FFP [Financial Fair Play] anymore. Man Utd are talking like a midtable club when it comes to the transfer market. Man Utd turn over £500million, one of the highest revenue generating clubs in the world.
‘Chelsea, Arsenal can sign big players, Man Utd are scrambling around on FFP. I know they’ve had losses on Covid and that could be thrown as an excuse.
‘Today was a fantastic game but it won’t change the fact that they’ve got owners of one of the biggest clubs in the world who are messing around with the football club and I’m not going to stop talking about it because it’s a massive problem.’
Supporters attribute much of United’s stark decline over the past decade to the much-maligned Americans, who are blamed for a lack of success and investment in infrastructure – neglect that has left Old Trafford in desperate need of renovation.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe also lodged bids ranging in the billions but has so far been unsuccessful
United supporters staged a recent sit-in protest in a bid to convince the Glazers to sell up
Mail Sport revealed how at one point Sheikh Jassim’s camp bypassed US merchant bankers Raine, who were placed in charge of the sale process last year, to deal directly with the Glazers. The situation has failed to progress, though.
A source believes the logic for taking United off the market now is that the family will try to sell again in 2025, when they hope they may attract more bidders.
United supporters held a sit-in protest at Old Trafford after their victory over Nottingham Forest and urged the Glazers to sell. Nevertheless, they were ignored.
Boss Erik ten Hag has been backed by the owners, who hope he can deliver major silverware over the next couple of seasons, which would boost the sale price.
After the international break, United will return to action against Brighton.
