Barcelona star Ronaldo Araujo has admitted he was bothered by Alejandro Garnacho’s recent antics. The Manchester United star uploaded a post appearing to mock Pedri after his side beat the Catalan giants 2-1 in the Europa League last month. The Red Devils remain in the competition having since proceeded to beat Real Betis home and away to boost their chances of more glory this season.

Manchester United sent Barcelona crashing out of the Europa League last month, with goals from Fred and Antony cancelling out an early penalty from Robert Lewandowski.

And Garnacho caused controversy in the aftermath of that result with his decision to upload a post to social media.

Garnacho shared an image of himself making a binocular with his hands, the celebration so often used by Barcelona midfielder Pedri whenever he joins.

In addition to that, the 18-year-old also accompanied the post with a caption that read: “The big team goes to the next round.” This sparked anger from Barcelona fans online, with many venting their fury at the teenager.

And Araujo, speaking to Infobae, has now slammed Garnacho – suggesting he feels the United star showed a lack of ‘respect’.

Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players

“Yes [it did bother me],” said the 24-year-old

“Everyone is as they are, but at that time it was not possible to put something like that.

“I respect everyone and I feel that humility is ahead of everything.

“Everyone expresses themselves as they want, but I prefer to have a lower profile and then show what I do on the pitch.

“This is football, he is very long and there is still a long way to go. You have to go calmly and humbly.”

However, when it comes to revenge, Araujo doesn’t have that on his mind.

“No, they are football things that I think of in a different way,” he said.

Araujo was also happy to discuss Lionel Messi, amid talk of the Paris Saint-Germain star potentially returning to Barcelona at the end of the season.

And the Uruguay international has talked up a move, saying: “I would love it if he could come back.

“He is the best player in the world and this is his home.

“His return would help us a lot to try to win another Champions League. Hopefully there are all the chances to have it again. We all want him by our side.”

As for Garnacho, meanwhile, Erik ten Hag recently admitted the United star was set for a prolonged absence after being forced to limp out of last Sunday’s goalless draw with Southampton.

“I can’t say exactly [when he will be back]. It will take weeks, it is a serious injury,” said the 53-year-old.

“Once again, after Christian Eriksen, we have a serious injury after a contact.

“It is not a good decision. It is difficult to make a diagnosis quickly. I saw him limping and that is why I took him off.”

He added: “He will be back before the end of the season.

“We need to get him back as soon as possible and we hope he is ready.”

Garnacho had been expected to receive a call-up for Argentina’s upcoming matches against Panama and Curacao.

Instead, he’ll now be staying at home and working on his rehabilitation.
