Antonio Conte has made it publicly clear that he plans to reshape the Tottenham Hotspur squad to his liking, starting in the January transfer window, as he looks to restore the club’s Champions League status. Express Sport looks at four current players likely to depart Hotspur Way over the next year.

Matt Doherty

Matt Doherty has struggled for minutes this season after Nuno Espirito Santo signed Emerson Royal in a £25million deal in the summer.

The 29-year-old hasn’t made a single Premier League start, appearing just four times, with Japhet Tanganga also above him in the pecking order.

And with Tottenham now out of Europe, chances for game time will be even more scarce.

Conte could look to get him off the wage bill as early as this month if there’s interest in his services.

Harry Winks

Harry Winks has been widely tipped to depart north London in the near future after slipping down the pecking order this term.

He has made just four league starts under Nuno and Conte and could be as low as fifth-choice among the players battling for the two central midfield spots.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Tanguy Ndombele, and even Dele Alli have enjoyed more game time than Winks this season.

He even admitted his desire to play regularly football earlier this term, suggesting a new challenge could be on the horizon.

Winks said: “Listen, I love Tottenham, I’ve always made that clear, but I want to play football. And I want to play regular football. The only way to play your best football, get momentum is when you’re playing regularly.”

Dele Alli

His decline has been steep in recent years, but there was always hope Dele Alli would eventually realise the glittering potential he once showed at Spurs.

However, reports suggest Spurs have made Alli available for transfer this month, so he could soon look to revitalise his career elsewhere.

Still 25, the former England international has plenty more years left to perform at the level he wants, but he doesn’t seem to fit in Conte’s plans.

Steven Bergwijn

Steven Bergwijn was an exciting arrival at Tottenham in January 2020, joining from PSV Eindhoven in a £27m move.

But he has failed to live up to expectations in England, despite sparks of brilliance that have come too irregularly.

After making just three league starts this term, Bergwijn could be eyeing the exit door, and a return to his homeland could be on the agenda.

According to De Telegraaf, via Sport Witness, Ajax are attempting to raise funds to increase their attempts to sign the tricky winger.
