Meanwhile, PSG also find themselves in the spotlight for the alleged homophobic chanting and could face sanctions if found guilty by the LFP.
On Monday, the Ligue 1 champions released a statement condemning ‘all forms of discrimination, particularly homophobia’ in the aftermath of the incident that marred the win over Marseille.
‘Paris Saint-Germain condemns all forms of discrimination, particularly homophobia, and would like to reiterate that it has no place in stadiums nor in society,’ the statement read.
‘Paris Saint-Germain has been working for many years with leading associations in the fight against all forms of discrimination, such as SOS Homophobie, which carries out prevention work in academy and pre-academy centres, Sportitude, SOS Racisme and Licra, which works with the club and its supporters.
‘The club intends to further strengthen its prevention work in the fight against homophobia and will be meeting all its partners in the next few days on this essential subject.’
Meanwhile, French sports minister Amelie Oudea Castera had called on the Ligue 1 champions to identify the perpetrators and suggested PSG should make a formal legal complaint against their fans responsible for homophobic chants
‘It is unthinkable to remain deaf to such hateful and homophobic chants in our stands,’ Oudea Castera said on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
‘Yesterday, these chants spoiled the party at the Parc. They must be eradicated from our stadiums as a matter of urgency.
