Ex-EFL boss bags postcode lottery windfall despite managing in mega-rich Brunei

Ex-Gillingham boss Adrian Pennock has landed a windfall of £83,333 after winning the postcode lottery – despite currently managing in mega-rich Brunei.

Pennock was one of the lucky residents of ME7 3TG postcode in Shepherd’s Gate, Hempstead to split the £1million pot. Pennock's son was also among those residents who received a cheque for the eye-watering sum of money.

The ex-EFL boss last job on these shores came in 2018 with then-National League side Barrow – who he parted ways with after narrowly avoiding relegation. And he was appointed by DPMM FC the following year, where he remains.

Despite being based in Brunei, DPMM FC play in the Singapore Premier League – and, in his first season as their boss, Pennock led them to their second-ever title.

He told The Sun: "It’s been an absolutely incredible and unbelievable year, from that first call off a bloke with broken English, asking if I’d be interested in managing this team in Brunei. I did think it was someone having a laugh.

"But when it was clear it was genuine I went for a visit and thought I’d give it a go. The expectation really was mid-table, but here we are now as champions."

In his time in Asia, Pennock has become the darling of the Crown Prince of Brunei, Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Sultan’s son – who also owns DPMM FC. Pinnock joked he had quite the culture shock when moving, adding: "I’d not been here long when I went shopping.

“On one side of the road was the usual stuff, Starbucks and that. On the other were about 50 monkeys and a huge dragon. There are saltwater crocodiles too, so there’s no swimming in the sea and in the jungle you’ve got snakes."
