Erling Haaland’s transfer preference after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘revives Man Utd interest’

Man Utd: Neville pops champagne as Red Devils go joint-top

Manchester United bosses believe they may have ‘dodged a bullet’ in not signing Jadon Sancho last summer – and will now focus their attentions on signing his teammate Erling Haaland. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to land Haaland last year and even flew out to Salzburg to try and sort a last minute deal.

Despite that late intervention, Haaland would ultimately join Dortmund, where after a staggering first year in Bundesliga, his stock has only risen further.

After failing to sign Haaland, United spent much of 2020 trying to sign Sancho, but according to Mirror Sport, there interest in the winger has now cooled.

The England international has suffered a dramatic loss of form at the start of this season and there is now a feeling they were right to not go all in on a deal that could have set them back more than £100m.

And rather than reviving that bid, Solskjaer would rather sign Haaland, despite his links with controversial agent Mino Raiola.

The agent, who also represents Paul Pogba, incurred the wrath of Old Trafford bosses after going public about the Frenchman wanting to leave Old Trafford this year.

However, despite the strained relationship, it is said that wouldn’t deter Solskjaer and Ed Woodward from trying to finalise the blockbuster deal.

Should United sign the Dortmund striker, they will also have to beat La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature

Both sides are desperate for a young focal point, with the two looking to rebuild their ageing squads.

Barca are in the midsts of their presidential elections, and candidate Emili Rousaud’s advisor Josep Maria Minguella, claimed they had a deal arranged for the player – should Rousaud be victorious.

He said:  “We know all the conditions and if we win, the following day I will call Mino Raiola and we will accept those conditions. I have already advised him of that.”

Raiola was quick to distance himself from those suggestions, although he did open the door for chats further down the line.

“This is fake news,” said Raiola. “I have never spoken of Haaland with any candidate and I will not. When a new president is elected, they can call me.”

AS report that Real Madrid have no concerns about Minguella’s claims, believing they hold all of the keys to signing the superstar.

They claim that the top brass at the Bernaebu ‘remain calm’ over the situation and have been working on a potential deal for months.

The report adds that Real bosses believe Haaland’s desire ‘is to wear the white jersey in the near future’.

It is also suggested that Haaland’s compatriot Martin Odegaard already being at the club, gives them a major advantage, with the midfielder reportedly trying to convince his friend to join him in Spain.
