England got their World Cup campaign off to the perfect start with a 6-2 victory over Iran. Goals from Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish and a Bukayo Saka brace ensured Gareth Southgate’s side sit top of Group B. Express Sport takes a look at how each of the individual players performed…

ENGLAND (4-2-3-1)

PICKFORD 7

Brilliant save before the late penalty but will have been gutted to concede, despite not having a chance.

TRIPPIER 7

Did not seem quite as sharp as usual in open play, stumbling over the ball, but his set-play delivery was strong.

STONES 7

Strong and dependable, pinning the defence together, but clearly needs to watch his shirt-pulling.

MAGUIRE 8

Total transition from his Manchester United form – strong in possession, used the ball well, unlucky not to score.

SHAW 8

Delivery from wide was always going to be a danger and proved it with first goal. More of the same please.

RICE 8

Will face tougher midfield duels than he had today but he was a reassuring extra man when needed and stuck to task.

BELLINGHAM 9

Absolutely delighted to score and it was no more than he deserved as one of the more influential players on the pitch.

STERLING 8

Grew into the game and once he got a feel for it, started to torment more. Took his first World Cup goal beautifully.

MOUNT 7

Really ran hard to open up gaps between the lines and regularly won possession high. Deserved more reward.

SAKA 8

Showed great confidence with his first goal and virtually walked his second one in. Willing to try stuff.

KANE 7

Superb cross from the first goal and set up fifth but a strangely quiet one for the England captain
